I have 2 coats shellac sealer, 7 coats KTM-9 on top- have some pinholes around the rosette.

2 questions:

#1 Should I just drop fill with a pipette as with Nitro? I'll be doing the final coats this afternoon or early eve.

#2 My apprentice needs to deliver his Oct 14th. Can we sand and buff after 5 days? Tips? I'm sure being gentle would help. We're at 72* and 47% in my shop

When you say "pinholes" are these actually gaps between the wood and purflings etc. that haven't filled, or are they small air holes in the finish? The stuff doesn't gap fill well at times.

Don't forget, this stuff doesn't melt into itself like lacquer does, so you're going to have to force it down there if it seems to pull away from the hole. I've had some small fisheye issues. and found that smearing the spot with my finger seems to eliminate it. For drop filling, I like to let some sit out a little while in an open container to thicken, then use that to drop fill.Don Williams38631.5315740741

You can fill the pinholes with medium CA. Squeegy the CA into the holes with a razor blade and do this before sanding the previous coat. Then sand level and finish your spraying. You can read about this at Mike Doolins KTM-9 Article

Thin CA though a very small tip extender capillary one you can control the flow to a very small drop at a time with. I get mine a the local RC airplane shop for about $.05 each. a lot more control than with the pipettes because of a much smaller capillary. I find the med CA tends to both bridge and haze over a bit the thin CA wicks into the void and cures dead clear.MichaelP38631.6372222222

Michael, it just depends on how deep the pinhole is. Sometimes thin will wick to china and never fill the hole. That's why I use a blade to squeegie the medium viscosity stuff in.

Here's the deal. pinhole are b/c of minute gaps between the topwood and rosette. CA makes me a little concerned. I glued my first guitar's rosette in with CA and it wicked into the top around the rosette, esp the end grain. Disfigured for life. But I'm guessing I used quite a bit.

I know putting just a little into a pinhole is probably ok. I'll try both and post my findings/preference.

Due to time constraints, I might have to use the pipettes

Use the medium viscosity CA to drop fill the pinholes and then level and sand and then spray your final coats. Buff it up and smile at the results!

I've used John's method many times and it works well. Like John states above "fill before sanding"
